Noah's Weighted lap pad and neck thingy

I promised pictures of the oh so expensive [mostly in time although the beads ranged from $7.00 at one store to $10 at another] weighted stuff I have been working on for my grandson Noah. He was diagnosed with sensory integration issues and these are supposed to work as a calming agent so that he can focus better on things like learning to write. The OT suggested making them to my daughter and since I sew she figured no problem. So did I until I waited patiently for the OT to give me the directions.
There were several links on the internet and all of them written so poorly, I might just as well have not waited for them. You know -- like Buy beads, construct pillow.
The beads are made by Fairfield and are meant to be used to weight the bottom of dolls and other stuffed animals. They are some form of plastic so that they never will rot like beans or rice and that also makes them washable. They are varying sizes in the same bag from tiny tiny to just tiny. They ALL fall merrily onto the floor. They stick to the inside of any narrow channel. Filling a 4x4 pocket to fit into the bottom of a bear -easy. This was not. The tube and the funnel made things go easier as did the long dowel I used for jamming the things on down. Felt like I was loading an old musket.
Found I could stitch the rows closed by hand turning the sewing machine wheel and that would keep me from breaking anymore needles. I broke two and it made me worried that a fragment might remain in the cloth somehow. I went one way hand turning and back the other using the foot pedal. I figured double stitching was a better way to keep the pellets in the pocket they were meant to be in. Again, better directions surely would have helped.
Anyway, they are done and only took the better part of 3 weeks. They are on sale on the web for $20. hmmmm

ps the lap pad says Buzz on one side and then little buzz on the other as in toy story.

well rats -- couldn't tell how big those pics were. I know a web site that can make them smaller. Will try to repost them.

That looks like quite a project! Don't know if I'd have persevered

These are special for Noah, and much nicer than the ones on the web. He's a lucky guy to have such a Mom and such a Grandma.
