I took a break from style show sewing and made myself a pair of capris.

This pattern is the SW capri draped pants pattern.  I always wear pants at my structural waist since I am long waisted and only have about 6" between my waist and my hip ... not much room for low-waisted pants!

I had seen someone with an interesting back hemline on some RTW capris and decided to see if I could easily duplicate it.  The result is good and the back slit actually makes them quite comfortable when sitting, since the slit opens.

Details for construction can be found in my blog.

Nice pants! The fit blows me away. Thanks for the pictures and for the construction details on your blog.  It looks like a pretty indestructible and easy way to make a slit - two desirable features.

Happy summer (are you having summer?  We aren't)

Really nice capris. I like the blue it is such a nice cool color for Summer.  The fit is great and looks very comfortable.

Kathy -- we must have your summer plus ours -- many many 90-degree days --- too many heat index days in the triple digits.

So I am spending all my time in the AC (crank it up to 80 so that the bills won't be quite as outrageous) and sewing for the style show.

You losing weight?  Or does a fab fit truly make you look like you are?

a little of both   Wink

down about 15 lbs from May 2009 ... so a little at a time ... I figured I let the pounds creep on so now I'm making them creep back off.

My real goal is to get my waistline to be half my height so have 1.5" to go on that one .... I'd love to have my waistline be no larger than my inseam but that will take a little more work!

I'm catching up after being offline here for a couple of years. This is probably the most beautiful fit I've ever seen in a pair of capris. I'm curious about the waist being 1/2 your height or your inseam though.  Where are you getting that formula from? Is that what makes one weight/height proportional or something?

Many thanks.

lol, boy I had to think about this one, it has been so long since I wrote that post ....

I had heard that a good rule of thumb is that your waistline be half your height ... for me that means 64"/2 ... or a 32-inch waist.  I think I was watching Oprah when they were talking about diabetes risks.

My inseam is only 29" so I'm dreaming to get my waist mst down to the same as my inseam ... (an old boyfriend once said he'd never let his waist get bigger than his inseam ... esp since guys buy their pants by waist/inseam mst ) .... and to think in HS my waist was only 24" .... those were the days .....
